The secret to absolute success in 10 steps

The secret to absolute success

One of the greatest contradictions of mankind is his hatred of what he wants to be.

This is the only way we can explain the hatred towards those who stand out on social media, where everyone is running after popularity, towards those who have become rich by sacrificing many things in their lives to earn more money, or towards those who are the most successful while trying to pass an exam.

Above all, it is obvious that we do not like our successful peers. Success is Nirvana for each person in their own way. But the only thing that awaits the successful is a large ball of envy. One day, while we were talking about this, one of us said something like, “Those at the top are condemned to loneliness.” He was not wrong.

Every Thursday evening I have a master’s degree course at Istanbul Bilgi University as part of the Next Academy . Since I love the campus, SantralIstanbul , I try to go as early as possible. I enjoy breathing the air there. Moreover, every week, I meet someone for some reason. People who follow me online and read my articles come and chat. Yesterday, while I was parking my motorcycle in the school yard, a student approached me. We started chatting. After saying hello, he started asking questions one after another. A series of fateful questions such as who I take as an example in life, who I find successful, how I overcome my ego, how I achieved success.

I just stood there.

Because these were things I didn’t really think about. I have a lot of successful people around me (one of the greatest gifts life has given me). But I’ve never called myself successful. People usually evaluate themselves by the things they fail at. We beat ourselves up the most.

Moreover, most of the things we call success are actually periodic, small-scale, and maybe not even worth talking about. I have my own perspective on success ( I think those who listened to my speech at the Failure Summit understand what I mean). I shared some of my ideas on this subject when I was a guest on Yaprak Özer’s program . Let me summarize the relevant part of that interview here:

You may be a mechanic or your job may be just tightening a screw. It’s about being the best in the world at tightening that screw . That’s success. Success isn’t about being a boss or a CEO; it’s about having the hope of being the best person in the world at whatever it is you do .

There is almost no imagination about the essence of the work done in the name of the success that is usually sought . Let me generalize with a few examples :

A football player is not ambitious to make his team history, but to transfer to a better team for a better price.
A politician strives to rise to higher levels, stand out, and protect his privileges rather than to serve his people better.
A singer is not after a song that will be listened to in a hundred years; he is after the song that will sell his album.
A white-collar worker often spends most of his time not to do his job properly, but to get promoted, get a better salary, and have the things he dreams of.
The famous philosopher Schopenhauer ‘s observation is not to be underestimated: Sex is the ultimate goal of almost all human endeavors .

Successful or popular?

I have serious confusion about success. As I mentioned in my presentation above, was Nikola Tesla, whose name most people would not have heard of if his movie had not been made in the recent past, a failure? As a scientist who changed the course of the world, he died penniless, trying to survive on cookies, in a dirty, miserable hotel room. Or was Vecihi Hürkuş, one of Turkey’s greatest success stories (again, I’m sure many people haven’t even heard of him), a failure? The man who wrote Turkey’s military and civil aviation history is not even mentioned today, not even a single word about success.

In short, our criteria for success are often fed by today’s general values and popular identities . Many successes and the people behind them pass away from this world without even being mentioned. Because they have no expectation of being remembered as successful . They are focused on their work and dreams. Their concern is only to do better.

Success is such a degenerate and empty concept that it has become exempt from

Reliability, for example…

Reliability is indexed to popularity. If I had a grocery store, I wouldn’t even trust the cash register while I went to pee for five minutes, some of them have become among the most trusted people in the country , for example.

In short, we are in a period where everything has become utterly detached from its meaning.

even the most basic values.

The moon is white, the sea is blue

As I was getting on the Vecihi after class, I noticed a magnificent full moon in the sky . I thought I would enjoy watching this view more on the Bosphorus. I sat on a bench at Akıntı Burnu and started watching . At that moment, I regretted how long it had been since I had looked at the sky. The moon was shining like a plate in front of me. When I looked carefully, the spots and craters on its surface began to become apparent. It occurred to me at that moment. Although I still don’t quite believe it, according to a claim, one of us had gone there, got out of his car, walked, ran, jumped and turned back. Our short conversation in the school parking lot came to mind again.

Who dares to talk about success when there are people who have walked on the moon?

When Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins returned, were they not surprised by all the storms we had caused on Earth, a mere grain of sand in the vast universe?

The brain-rotting “Information Age

The word of the year 2024, “brain rot,” summarizes the route taken by the information highway, built with the claim of carrying humanity into the information age, taking it as far away from information as possible.

same technology has put its roots in) are magazine covers. When I intended to write this article, I scanned the TIME titles in my document archive. Even those alone were enough to summarize the process and transformation we are experiencing.

The star of the March 28, 1955 issue is IBM’s “ Electronic Data Computing Machine : Model 702” , which they called “ Brain ” and boasted about filling a room and doing the work of 25 thousand mathematicians on its own . In 1965, with the excitement felt when some companies had 200 computers, there is an emphasis on “computers are rapidly spreading”. On the 1978 cover, we are greeted by chips that can do tasks equal to those that could barely fit in a room 25 years ago and are called “miracles” . With the “ Computer Generation ” cover in 1982, we see the excitement of the future promised by the generation that grew up using computers at home and at school . In 1993, we witness the world of the “cyberpunk” crowd, adorned with esoteric-sounding concepts such as “cyberspace”, “virtual reality”, “computer virus”, and “virtual communities” .
